Sachary is Transforming her Community

Sachary became a young mom without a job.

Sachary, a single mother at 19, faced numerous obstacles while pursuing her dream of getting a college degree. However, everything changed when she discovered Project Alianza.

Through our training program, Sachary became a Community Educator or an Educadora, empowering her local students by teaching them to read and write using the Teaching-at-the-Right-Level (TaRL) method.

She received training from Alianza to be an educator and earned her college degree.

Inspired by her new job, Sachary enrolled in university and pursued a degree in language and literature, also with support from Project Alianza.

Many other women in similar positions have also benefited from Alianza, with over half of the community educators enrolling in or completing university, buying homes, and obtaining professional certifications to become literacy specialists.

Sachary with her Bachelor's Degree in Education

Sachary now leads the way for local women and students.

Sachary's transformation through her work as an educator gave her renewed purpose, bolstered her income, and allowed her to support her family. She realized the importance of literacy and witnessed the positive impact it had on children's lives. To date, over 90% of girls receiving support from Community Educators have stayed in school.

In addition to teaching literacy, community educators provide extra support to girls in secondary school, addressing gender equity issues and reproductive health education. 77% of the girls who attended our gender-equity camps have demonstrated more knowledge about their own reproductive health, which leads to fewer unplanned pregnancies and an increase in school retention.

By creating networks and empowering local women as educators, Alianza is driving change within communities and transforming future generations.

Her daughter now has a role model!

Sachary's daughter now aspires to become a teacher like her mother, embodying the importance of education and female empowerment.

With leaders and role models like Sachary, there are no limits to the incredible heights women and students can reach. Be part of the change today.

“I started my job as an Educadora and my vision for the future changed completely. I found my calling and became an entirely different person. Thanks to Alianza, I completed my bachelor’s degree, built my own house, and am an entirely different woman. I’m a renewed person.” - Sachary, Community Educator
