We’re excited to announce that our new offline literacy app, AnGo, has officially launched!
Tailored to the needs of rural Central American students, this app will make literacy education accessible for millions of children. Literacy is essential for students' personal growth and future opportunities, yet many face challenges in accessing consistent, high-quality education. Factors such as remote school locations, low funding, and limited access to books and resources contribute to low literacy rates in the region. High dropout rates and a lack of trained teachers further hinder progress.

Digital learning support that we're familiar with in urban environments (like computers and tablets) can be challenging to implement in many rural communities. Schools often lack reliable electricity, and internet access is sparse or prohibitively expensive. However, many families often own low-cost smartphones, making an offline app like AnGo a perfect solution for reaching students in these remote areas. AnGo’s offline functionality allows students to learn anytime, without the need for a connection, empowering families and students alike to engage with literacy content without barriers.
Rather than assuming what grade-level students are reading at, AnGo uses Teach-at-the-Right-Level methodology to evaluate what level each student is reading at and adapts as they progress. This personalization increases comprehension and retention, ensuring that each child moves at a pace suited to their unique abilities. The content, developed by local educators, is culturally relevant and context-specific, reflecting the everyday lives of rural Central American children. This contextual relevance makes the material relatable and engaging, deepening students’ connection to reading.
Already, AnGo has seen enthusiastic use in the region, with teachers, parents, and students noting its positive impact. As one teacher shared, "I'm very excited about AnGo because it is a helpful tool for us educators and for the children we teach." The high demand for AnGo speaks to its value in the community and its promise as a powerful literacy resource.
With AnGo, Project Alianza is breaking down the barriers to education and literacy for rural Central America. This initiative represents a step forward in educational equity, equipping students with essential tools for lifelong learning.
