Breaking Barriers: The Story of Jogeyling and Judeyling

What does it take to turn dreams into reality? For Jogeyling and Judeyling Roque, it took determination, a supportive family, and access to education through Project Alianza. These remarkable sisters have overcome obstacles to become the first high school graduates in their family, paving the way for a brighter future for themselves and their siblings.

Our journey with Jogeyling and Judeyling began in 2018 at San Martín de Peñas Blancas School, nestled in the hills of La Dalia, Nicaragua. Back then, they were eager primary school students participating in our ENAd program, where they sharpened their reading and writing skills. But their ambitions didn’t stop there.

When it was time to move on to secondary school, their parents faced a daunting challenge: how to afford education for six children. Don Félix López, their father, shared his gratitude for the Katie’s Scholarships program, which gave his daughters the chance to keep studying without financial interruptions. “This support didn’t just change my daughters’ lives,” he said. “It changed our whole family. It gave us hope.”

With the help of these scholarships, Jogeyling and Judeyling didn’t just continue their education - they thrived. Over the past five years, they’ve excelled in school while balancing their studies with family responsibilities and community activities, like attending church and spending time with loved ones. Their dedication paid off: today, they stand as role models for their younger siblings and proof that education is a game-changer.

The Roque sisters’ journey is a testament to the power of opportunity and resilience. By breaking barriers and becoming the first graduates in their family, they’ve not only achieved personal milestones but also inspired others in their community to dream big.

At Project Alianza, we believe stories like theirs have the power to transform entire communities. Jogeyling and Judeyling remind us that education doesn’t just open doors, it builds bridges to brighter futures.
