As we approach the end of 2023, it's time to remember the incredible strides we made together. To celebrate, we’ve compiled our top ten moments of 2023.

Our Top 10 Moments of 2023

1. Long-term donor Lifeboost Coffee visits a school they co-sponsored in Jinotega, Nicaragua

Shannon from the Lifeboost team visited Escuela La Bailadora, a school they helped build for 150+ students.

2. Karen graduates from university

Karen, a community educator, earned her degree in Business Administration with the support of a scholarship from Project Alianza. She's a trailblazer for rural girls and women.

3. Nicaraguan staff train a team of Guatemalan women as literacy educators

Our lead educators from Nicaragua created and hosted a training for Guatemalan indigenous women in the Teach-at-the-Right-Level (TARL) methodology who are now reaching hundreds more children.

4. Our literacy classes reach students in southern Argentina

Our radio classes help students learn from anywhere, as they follow along with a guidebook full of interactive activities. This year students in Ushuaia, Argentina chimed in to improve their reading skills.

5. Kim Escalante dedicates her volcano run to Project Alianza

Kim is a record-setting athlete, fitness coach, and global ambassador for Project Alianza. This year, she set the record as the first woman to run Guatemala’s 37 volcanoes in 12 days, standing as an incredible role model for young girls in Guatemala.

6. Our Board of Directors welcomes Rachael Clarke

Rachael Clarke, Partner at Phase 2 Partners brings more than 20 years of experience in finance and operations to our board, helping us expand our impact to new communities of students.

7. Bain & Co. hosts a hackathon to improve our data dashboard to track literacy progress in real-time

As we continue to improve our literacy mobile app, AnGo, developers from Bain & Co. hosted a hackathon to improve our data dashboard, allowing us to measure the literacy progress of learners.

8. Karen and Sachary get their passport and fly for the first time

Karen and Sachary, lead educators and mentors, come from small villages and never imagined being international jet setters. They were incredibly nervous but shined as they trained women throughout Guatemala!

9. Kristin completes Aspen Leadership Training

Our founder, Kristin Van Busum, was inducted into the Aspen Global Leadership Network, a global community of visionary leaders committed to creating a more equitable and fair society. This training helped steer Kristin and Project Alianza toward greater sustainability in Central America.

10. Our girls’ retention rates reach an all-time high

This year, 98% of our girl students receiving mentorship and scholarships completed their current grade in a region where more than half drop out before graduation. To support girls with their education, give here.
