Letter from our Founder: COVID19

In days and moments and challenges like the world is facing right now, we are reminded of our purpose as humans living in community and as an organization. We exist to come alongside communities and support them in their fight to gain access to basic healthcare and education infrastructure. This lack of infrastructure can mean that in times of political turmoil, economic hardship, climate catastrophes, and illness, the communities we partner with are at higher risk than most. In these moments, we work to put the concerns from the kids, families, leaders, teachers, staff, and volunteers that make up the Alianza community at the forefront of what we do.

To do this in the midst of COVID19, we have asked all of our staff, board, and volunteers in the US to hault all air and international travel as of last week and continue until further notice. We’ve asked all of staff in Central America to refrain from traveling across countries and to limit exposure to tourists from high-risk countries. We’ve committed to supporting our staff and friends in communities who have struggled for generations to gain equal access to health and education resources. We see this as a chance to show our support, resilience, adaptability and commitment to supporting children's safety, prosperity and education while creating as little foreign dependence as possible.

We apologize for those who have committed to traveling with us, and appreciate you standing in solidarity. If you would like to get or stay involved or have questions about our work during this time, please reach out to us directly.

Be safe. Love each other well and protect each other fiercely.

xo,
