Equity Starts Here: Project Alianza's Commitment to Women and Gender Equity

In the heart of Central America, Project Alianza is on a mission to make a real impact through education and empowerment. We're all about keeping it straightforward. We believe in gender equity, and that means women lead the charge both in our organization and on the ground. Take Amalia Castellanos, for example - our CoFounder & Program Director and a true inspiration.

At Project Alianza, we want to see women thrive not just at school but in every part of life, from home to career. One big part of this is training local women to be community educators. It's their first real opportunity at a professional job outside the usual informal economy and agricultural sectors.

The proof of our work is right there when these women keep growing. Karen Davila is a shining example. After finding herself a young mom, she struggled with job stability, but with our financial support, she earned a Business Administration degree. Now, Karen's in charge of five local communities in Nicaragua and mentoring 23 students. Her journey shows that education and empowerment change lives.

Our community educators undergo comprehensive training to foster gender equity in the classroom. Simple practices when consistently and methodically applied have proven so powerful, like waiting just a few additional seconds after posing a question to the children, as boys tend to raise their arm before formulating an answer whereas girls will think through a question before raising their arm. Plus, they visit high school girls' homes twice a year to discuss things like gender equity, reproductive health, consent, addressing sexual trauma, and menstrual hygiene.

Let's come together to sow the seeds of change, foster gender equity, and empower generations of women. Join us on this journey of transformation.
