Changing One Person’s World

Changing One Person’s World

As just one person you might not be able to change the whole world, but you can change the world of one person.

Ooph what a cliché - right? Yet there is some truth in that tired old quote. So often it feels like we can’t impact the world the way we want. We’re just one person, or we don’t know where to start. But every amazing, change-making, goes-down-in-history moment started because someone, somewhere changed the world of one person. They listened. They showed up. They spoke up, they fought, and they gave. They did something to change one person’s world, and the rest of the world followed.

A chance to learn changes a child’s whole world. They are given security and stability - a place to play, to make friends, to learn new things, to complain about homework, and to dream of a future. This is what BarnRaisers of Indiana and Tinker Coffee gave to the children of a coffee farming community in rural Nicaragua.

Going to class in a structure that was falling apart, learning was not at its best for this community a year ago. With a building so unsafe it lead to an injured student and not enough resources, even showing up to class felt like a heavy burden. A good school changed everything. With a safe building, enough desks and books for every student, and new programs to improve reading rates and hygiene, the world’s of these students is forever changed.

People like Tinker Coffee and BarnRaisers of Indiana that are collaborating across sectors to bring education to new communities are changing the world. As a coffee roaster, Tinker Coffee is caring for the people in their supply chain, giving to education to fight inequality because they realize that higher wages don’t reach everyone. The BarnRaisers of Indiana are leveraging their position, network and privilege to raise funds for children in need of support and resources all over the world. Because it takes caring and collaboration to make bricks and books a school where good learning can happen. When teachers, parents, students and small businesses all work to change the world of one student, we are one step closer to ending the global education crisis.

Together, BarnRaisers of Indiana and Tinker Coffee changed the world for kids growing up in rural Nicaragua. It’s thanks to BarnRaisers of Indiana and Tinker Coffee that we have been able to build our 9th school and provide literacy programs in our 24th community. It’s because people like  you that one person’s world has changed, and because of you that they will go on to change someone else’s. It’s because of you that the world is a little brighter and another child is able to learn.

The biggest mistake we can make is to think that we can’t make a difference. You can make a difference, and you are
