Lifeboost Coffee believes in giving back to coffee communities as a way to uplift families out of poverty and into a brighter future. Since December 2020, Lifeboost  has been dedicated to sponsoring Project Alianza’s initiatives to provide accessible education to children in rural villages in Latin America.

Rural Central American regions are perfect for growing coffee but suffer from inadequate schooling, overcrowded classrooms, under-resourced teachers, and gender inequity. For this reason, ‘more than half of children in Latin America, according to the World Bank, will complete primary school without knowing how to read.’ Girls fare the worst, with especially high dropout rates between primary and secondary school.

With the support of partners like Lifeboost Coffee, Project Alianza recruits and trains local women as educators, employing the innovative Teach-at-the-Right-Level method to help kids learn to read and write. To keep girls from dropping out of school, Project Alianza grants families cash assistance to help cover education costs such as supplies and transportation. Girls are also paired with an Alianza educator, giving them social support to overcome obstacles to learning. Over 90% of girls receiving this support have stayed in school.

The commitment Lifeboost Coffee has to Project Alianza’s educational initiatives helps provide children with scholarships to afford items like school supplies and bus fare, accelerated reading and writing classes, audio classes over radio, mentorship to help them stay in school, and local women receive training and certification to become community educators. To date, over 170,000 learners have been impacted through Project Alianza.

Lifeboost's holistic approach recognizes that education is not only a key to breaking the cycle of poverty but also a cornerstone for sustainable and prosperous coffee-growing regions.

Lifeboost’s support of Project Alianza’s programs even resulted in a new school in Nicaragua, providing generations of children with the hope for a brighter future. During her visit to the school in the summer of 2023, Shannon witnessed the transformational power of education through Project Alianza, as children shared their aspirations for higher education. Shannon was deeply moved by their commitment to achieving a better future and more confident than ever in the partnership between Lifeboost Coffee and Project Alianza.
