We have an amiga named Katie. She has traveled the globe with her camera as a human rights advocate and photojournalist. She tells others' stories, becomes their friend, and leaves with a little more love in her heart for the people she's leaving behind. We admire Katie for so many reasons: her enthusiasm for living life as fully as possible, her deep-belly laugh, her over-flowing heart, and her gumption. But we really admire Katie because she's never stopped learning. She's dedicated to learning new ideas, asking critical questions, creating art, and listening to the stories people have to tell.

We all want to be more like Katie.

We want kids in Project Alianza schools to have the same enthusiasm for life and learning like Katie. So we've set up this scholarship fund to help kids living in marginalized parts of the coffeelands. Any student enrolled in a Project Alianza school is eligible for this award. The scholarship will be awarded to one extraordinary student based on merit and service to community. The recipient is given funding to attend high school, any Nicaraguan-based University, and a graduation bonus.

We hope that Katie's Fund will help girls and boys grow up to be lifelong learners, adventurers, leaders, peacemakers, and life-enthusiasts, just like our amiga Katie.
